Whistle Stop Challenge
April 24- April 26, 2020
5K // 10K // 15K
Whistle Stop Challenge is a series of race events spanning 3 days from April 24, 2020-April 26, 2020. The race series is designed to take place in 3 different cities in Southwest MS along the railroad: Brookhaven, Summit, and McComb. The purpose of this design is to showcase the rich history of all three towns which were all started by, or trace much of their early success to, the arrival of the railroad in the 19th century. All three cities currently have beautifully preserved train depots which will serve as a perfect location to host the start and finish of each race. Each day of the weekend series will include a race in one of the three “whistle stop” towns. The series is also designed as a challenge event with longer race distances at each stop. The first event will be a 5K race in Brookhaven on Friday, April 24, followed by a 10K race in Summit on Saturday, April 25, and then the grand finish will be a 15K race in McComb on Sunday, April 26.
Following the guidance of recent advisories from federal and state authorities, as well as the recommendation regarding public events issued by the Center of Disease Control, we have decided to convert Whistle Stop Challenge to a VIRTUAL ONLY event. We feel that this decision is the best option in order to avoid a complete cancellation of the event. All participants will still receive their t-shirt and medal(s) for the event(s) they have registered for. Registration will remain open for anyone desiring to participate in this event virtually. We have decided to lower the registration fee back to the early registration rate. Virtual races are very common in the running community and we feel like this will be a great solution in the wake of the current circumstances. All race packets will be mailed to the participants following the event date. This decision comes after much thought and consideration. We always want to do what is best for our participants and we never want to have to cancel an event if it can be avoided. We do not feel that re-scheduling is a practical choice for us at this time. We truly appreciate the support of our sponsors in this decision and we appreciate your understanding as well. We will continue to support our charity partner, Southwest Mississippi Children’s Advocacy Center through this virtual race as well. Registration fees have been updated and online registration for the Virtual Whistle Stop Challenge is available at www.whistlestopchallenge.com. Thank you so much for your support of our events!
